Bio

Paula is a writer for stage & screen. She grew up in a completely mixed community in Manor Park, East London. She’s a previous winner of the Alfred Fagon Award 2008 and was shortlisted for the John Whiting Award 2009. Her play FOUR DECADES was a finalist for the 2021 Women’s Prize for Playwriting. Paula’s been a writer in residence at Soho Theatre and writer on attachment at the National Theatre Studio. She’s written plays for Soho Theatre, Red Ladder, Almeida Projects, Tangle & Theatre Centre amongst others. Most recently she co-wrote Messiah with Jesse Briton on the legacy of Black Panther Activist Fred Hampton. She was part of the 2016-17 Drama Room at BBC Writersroom and included on the BBC new talent hotlist. Her interests take her in many directions, but most recently she’s particularly intrigued by little known historical and contemporary black British stories.
